HDTV monitor/Vectorscopes & Wavefor monitors

I’m going to purchase an HDTV for my viewing pleasure, and also as a monitor to use for color correction and final round editing. I wanted to know if anybody has suggestions for an HDTV in the $1000-2000 range that I could use for both TV watching and color correction. The one basic thing I can think of is that it be able to be optimized for color bars- any other ideas? Also, what is the best way to connect a G5 or MacBook Pro or MacPro to a regular HDTV? Would it be a VGA connection? Could the Apple TV serve as some sort of intermediate between the two? This is an area where I am embarrassingly weak…

Thanks so much for your thoughts- and in a related question, does anybody know any good basic resources on the net for work with vectorscopes, waveform monitors and color bars? I want to master that end of post work.

There is nothing in that price range that would be an accurate monitor for color grading. Cheapest monitors would be the Panasonic 1700W and 2600W but even those are not the best for grading. They can be used, but are not the best.

eCinemas has a $4,000 monitor that is supposed to be pretty good, haven’t seen it yet, but it’s supposed to be good.

most of us learn this in school or on the job, while working with waveforms is pretty straight ahead it took me a long time to understand the ins and outs of a vectorscope.

probably the Color User Manual does the best concise job of explaining both.
