  • HDLINK Pro DVI & HDLINK Display Port and new Apple 27″ LED Monitor

Posted by Michael Kammes on November 29, 2010 at 10:02 pm

Phone support was unable to provide an answer, so it was suggested I post on the ‘cow.

Short Question: Can a HDLINK Pro 3D Display Port or HDLINK Pro DVI push a new 27″ Apple Cinema Display (with a Display port to DVI Adapter) full screen, and at resolutions ABOVE 1920 x 1200?

Long Question: Consider the facility workflow:

CPU out via BM DVI Extender
    to
    BM Video Hub (HD-SDI)
    to
    HDLINK Pro DVI
    to
    Monitor.

I confirmed with Engineering at Blackmagic 6 months ago that the DVI Extender – whether in video mode for video gear (1080i) or extender mode (for use with HDLINK Pro (max 1920 x 1200)) cannot fill a 30” monitor. No way around it while using this config.

(BTW, If this is wrong, I would LOVE to hear about it, we’ve been using older Apple 30″ displays with only the center of the screen being used for months)

I’m afraid that an Apple 27″ may have the same problem. However, if I replace the HDLINK Pro DVIss with the HDLINK Pro 3D Display Port, would that aid in any way?

    Thanks!

    ~Michael

    Hi Michael,

Currently, the 27″ Apple Cinema display will not work and we’re looking into it.

We are considering purchase of an HDLink ProDVI.
I wish to feed the HDLink Pro DVI with the 2K SD signal coming from the RedOne camera.
Will the Apple Cinema Display model # A1081 show a full screen image when connected to the HDLink ProDVI female DVI port??

In our facility, this will not work. The image is centered and will not fill the screen.

The resolution maxes out at 1920 x 1200.

In my experience, anything BELOW 1920 x 1200 is OK. Anything ABOVE 1920 x 1200 will be problematic because the HDLINK PRO is NOT dual link, which is required for ACDs with resolutions higher than 1920 x 1200.

    I’m hoping this changes soon!
