    HDCAM to FCP and back to HDCAM

    I have a fairly simple question I think:

    making minor video and audio changes on some air master tapes. Getting HDCAM 1080i 59.94 tapes digitized for edit in Final Cut Pro 7. What is best codec to work with? I will then deliver Full Res QT to Post House to lay off back to HDCAM 1080i 59.94.

    Hey Paul-

    When I’ve worked with footage from HDCAM, I mostly capture using normal ProRes to save space. Occasionally, I’ll use ProRes HQ if it’s absolutely essential that no quality is lost, but I haven’t noticed any problems with normal ProRes.

    ProRes 422 is more than adequate for HDCAM. You might want to think about HQ for HDCAM SR.

    Check with the post house. They might prefer another codec if they are not an FCP facility.
