I received a HDCAM tape (at 1080i 59.94) today with a segment from a tv show that will appear in a documentary. The image on the tape is postage stamp (pillar box and letter box). The director wants the image full screen and our work flow has been DVCPRO HD 720p @ 23.98 fps. (The image is 16×9 so I do not have to worry about aspect ratio.)

I was thinking that I could put the clip on a 720p @ 23.98 timeline and blow up the image up to fill the screen and export the clip there by solving the issue of size and frame rate at once…???

    or

Should I keep the image postage stamp and convert to 720p @ 23.98 and when it is the actually used (it will be threaded throughout an interview) blow up those segments to full frame?

    Any other suggestions/solutions?

We are cutting on FCP v 7.0.1

    Thank you

I’ve had pretty good results from Compressor. Compressor has some decent frame blending algorithms since at least v3.0. You must use the “Frames” tab in Compressor and select the proper options. I will refer you to the PDF manual in Compressor’s Help menu for details.
