    Hi guys,

I’ve just finished a cut and my client wants me to output to HDV tape. The finished piece is in HD 1920-1080, 29,97, 8 bit uncompressed. I have an AJA kona le card and breakout box.

Now I know my SDI outputs are working fine as I used them to monitor the colortiming in HD. But he can’t seem to find a HDV deck that will accept a HD SDI input and record in HDV…

    any thoughts appreciated as always…

    thanks

AS far as I know, I don’t think it’s possible. I so not know for sure as I have never worked i HDV, but I think the HVR1500 has component ins.

I believe that the new Sony HVR-1500A can record via HD-SDI.

Is this Bill Carnicelli from the OPD ?

Well Bill, you beat me to the punch. The HVR-1500A is the only HDV VTR that can record back an HD-SDI signal from an AJA or Blackmagic (or AVID) product. The HVR-1500 only has an SDI input (for DVCam format), but the NEW 1500A does have an HD-SDI input, and can do exactly what you want.

Sony always teases us, and releases all this stuff slowly. We all suffered thru the HVR-M10U, 15, 25, and the got close with the 1500. Now the 1500A does it all.

There is also the HVR-M35E – but you have to use firewire for device control…

Hey Bob! The system you built for us here at the Sheriff’s office has been working perfectly. I’m getting bids for for a new HVR-1500A right now so that’s why I was familiar with the specs. I’m looking to replace the DSR-40 with it.

    Hi Bob,

I have been doing research on the 1500A deck and have had mixed results with the answers I found.

In field applications, will this deck record an HD-SDI video signal from external source. For instance, if i wanted to use the 1500A to record a video signal from an Panasonic HPX-170 or a Toshiba IK-HD1. Would the deck take the HD-SDI signal from either of the cameras?

    Thanks. Any input is appreciated.
