    Hi,

I am using Photoshop to build slides for my editor. It’s going to be on broadcast so I’ve built everything within title safe. It’s also SD (not letterboxed).

However, they are going to shoot the actors at 1920×1080 high.

What is the HD equivalent of SD 720×480? My editor tried to tell me it was 1440 but the math works out to 1620×1080 assuming that 720/480 = x/1080. 640×480 = 1440/1080.

What do I use? I need title safe to be spot on. Right now I’ve already started building 720×480 and will scale up until I get an answer.

    Thanks,

    spiral

For HD do 1920 x 1080. When a clip at 1440 ends up in FCP it will turn into 1920. It kind of like the same idea behind Anamorphic. Best of luck.

There is no equivalent…as SD is 4:3 (in NTSC land) and HD is 16:9. There is no such thing as HD 4:3.

Shoot 1920×0180…crop off the sides. Use the HD video in an SD timeline.
