    Hi.

I’m working on an HD project using Final Cut 5 and my client wants the project on a Movie Cube player. Unfortunately, Movie Cube will not play .mov files. It will play MP4s (though sadly not H.264 format MP4s) and AVIs, but I’d prefer to use MP4 since AVIs I’ve made look horrible.

All MP4 exports I’ve made using QT conversion so far look okay, but there is still some obvious compression going on. My client wants full quality MP4 video.

Has anyone here had some experience with HD MP4 conversion? Any guidance you can provide will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I was afraid of that. I’ve got a feeling the same is true for an AVI conversion. Any suggestions?

Popwire has an excellent MPEG-4 Part 2 encoder in Compression Master. Much, much better than Apple’s encoder (or anyone else’s for that matter). Does the cube play back uncompressed AVI’s? If so, export out as 10bit uncompressed and then convert that to 8bit uncompressed AVI. But I suspect the AVI format you are refering to is compressed, and in that case I would try the DivX encoder for the mac as well.
