HD PVR MP4 files are cropped to the top left corner in Sony Vegas
I have a video I recorded straight from my TV/Xbox with an HD PVR. The resolution is 1280×720 and when I play that video in Window Media Player, it plays fine.

When I play it in VLC, the video is severely cropped off and NONE of the settings Ive used can change the way its played. VLC thinks whatever you see on the screen is the actual video itself. Changing the aspect ratio, etc. does nothing but add bars to the top and bottom of the video, making the cropped video be in the aspect ratio you choose.

The problem with this is that Sony Vegas Pro, the program I use to edit my video, sees my videos the same way VLC sees them, not the way WMP sees them. As a result, my videos come out to be severely cropped to the top left.
But here’s the weird thing, after tinkering around with VLC, I found this geometry setting that lets me do this

And that’s it. That bar on the left side isn’t interactive, and the crop rectangle isn’t manipulable. So VLC KNOWS the entire video file exists somehow, just won’t play it.
I’ve been scouring the Internet for a fix, not an avoidance to the issue because I’ve spent hours editing the video already so “Record it in x format using y settings” won’t work. I’ve come across DOZENS of different forums where people have had the EXACT same issue as I, and so far there have been ZERO solutions, only people who suggest avoiding the problem which won’t help me because I’ve already edited the movie.

Right-click on one of the video events and select Properties | Media and tell us what Vegas thinks the attributes of the video are (i.e., width, height, video format, pixel aspect ratio, etc.). Do they match the real attributes that you know the video is? (they should)

Thanks, Mr. Rofrano, I have corrected the issue. But now I have questions regarding convenience.
Say I have a movie with about 100 split clips and I want to remove clip 30 and have all the rest slide down. Is there a fast way to do that other than holding Ctrl and selecting each one and sliding them down/using Select Events to end (because sometimes you don’t want to select every event to the end)?
Now say I have a movie with about 100 split clips all with text added using the Insert Text Media. I want to change the shadowing/font/font color for all them at once. Is there a way other than the obvious way of doing them each separately manually, or is there a shortcut for this? God, I hope there is.

It would be helpful to others in the community if you can explain how you corrected the issue. This way other people having the issue can correct theirs.

Turn on ripple editing. This will close any gaps when you remove events from the timeline and make room for any new events. Be sure to turn it off after the events ripple because it could have some nasty side-effects if left on all the time.

You are out of luck. There is not way to change the attributes of multiple text events. That would be a nice feature. You might ant to request it here: Sony Product Suggestions

Use GSpot or MediaInfo. Both can tell you what the attributes of the video file are.

Please tell me how you corrected the issue with the “top left cropping”. i have the same issue with no clue on how to fix it. i have looked all over the internet with no help.
