HD monitoring on NTSC monitor
I’m comping a bunch of 720p material and would like to output to my NTSC broadcast monitor. Right now it’s outputting pixel for pixel so I get a partial image at the wrong aspect ratio. Is there a way to have the image scaled out to the buffer? I have the HD scaling selected in the Decklink control panel and it works fine for Premiere. AE has an option to scale to 4:3 in their video preview preferences so it works there too. I’m imagining the response is going to be that this is an Autodesk issue. If so, does anyone know of a fix or workaround?

Hey Dean,
What is the model of the board you are using and which down convert option did you select in the output processing tab?
If you happen to have a Decklink HD Pro DL (PCI-x) then there is an extra down converting option that only works with 1080i. So using 720p will give odd results.
Also, make sure you have chosen the proper option, anamorphic or letterbox in the down converter. If you do anamorphic the image will look tall.

Thanks for the reply. I have a Decklink HD Extreme. I have HD to Letterbox selected in the Decklink control panel and it works fine for Premiere. AE’s implementation seems a little less elegant in that you must selct 4:3 output in Video preview and then use low quality to get real time playback but at least it works. Combustion doesn’t have any framebuffer options beyond choosing the make and output resolution. Blackmagic-NTSC is the only one that works for my broadcast monitor. However as I said HD material is not scaled to fit it. I just get a 720×486 piece of it. Can anything be done for this?
