  • hd monitor from dvi port?

Posted by Marcel Franck on November 24, 2009 at 7:29 pm

Hello to all…I Edit in FCP on my new MBP and I want to monitor on a proper monitor, ie flanders or pani 17″…since my footage is coming from a memory card…i am not outputting to tape….why can’t i use a dvi to hd/sdi converter to feed the monitor? I dont know what the actual specs are coming out from the dvi port when i choose video playback cinema display full screen…can someone help me answer this question….? i’m sure there’s a good reason why this won’t work…just don’t know….I cross posted this in the fcp forum and they suggested there might be a BM product like the dvi extender that would work.
    thanks in advance

    marcel,
your mac pro is not putting out a smpte 259m or 292m standard hdi signal (from your DVI port).
You need a box that will connect from your firewire port or slot 34 adaptor to your macbook pro, that will create this signal for you. Products like the Blackmagic HDLinkPro convert HD-SDI to DVI for a DVI monitor (like an AppleCinema). Not Mac DVI to a SMPTE 292M HD-SDI signal. This is not just a “cable” that you need.

    well

i don’t know your specific needs.
pure for “what is going on” monitoring you could use DVI to a FSI
but you will not see colorspace or interlacing problems.

if it is for picture quality analyzing use the things mentioned before
