HD Looks Crappy in AE…Why???
I’m trying to do some green screen compositing in AE7 and am noticing that the quality of my 1080i imported P2 video isn’t that great. It’s not sharp and all that HD’s supposed to be. The highlights lack dynamic range and actually start banding in the hot spots.
However, when in FCP 5, a clip down-converted to SD with Kona LH looks awesome on my SD NTSC production monitor. I currently don’t have an HD monitor. Here’s my workflow:
1. Import P2 clips into FCP for mxf to mov conversion
2. Import mov file into AE7
3. Make a new comp with this HD clip
4. Pull the key
5. Make a SD D1 comp and drop the HD key comp into it
6. Add BG elements, render, make coffee, drink, post to the CowCould this be a YUV vs RGB issue? I can’t imagine AE not being able to produce acceptable results with HD material. I’ve already accepted operator error. This errant operator would appreciate any thoughts/advice. Thanks!
