HD in after effects (storage, proccesor, etc)

I will work in special effects for a project in High Definitition High End for the new SR format 4:4:4.
I would like to know what I really need in my PC for working properly. I will recieve the footage in a Tiff secuence and I will deliver them in the same way.
How much amount of hard drive I will need ? I think It won´t be more than 1 Hour of footage.
Is it enough a Quadro Core proccesor with 4 GB of ram ? I have the Quadro FX 1500 from Nvidia for Graphic Card.
Obviously I will have a HD monitor to see the image properly and I will work with After Effects CS3
How do you see it ???

The graphics card must be supposrted by Adobe, otherwise it doesn’t matter what you get. Switch OpenGL off until Adobe imp[lements it better.

As far as I know my After effect just read 2GB of Ram. I will update my windows to XP64 but how the After Effects will read the 8 GB ?

As far as I know the After effects just can read 2GB of ram.
I will update my Windows XP to windows XP64 but this will read the 8GB?Is it something that I have to set in after effects to read that amount of ram ??

They are talking that for video you will need 120GB per minute ?
I am not sure if that is correct for this .The footage is HD SR 1920×1080 59i 4:4:4.At your understanding, how much GB do I need per sec ?

January 30, 2008 at 4:57 pmWell … though the format you stated seems to run at 800mb/sec, meaning 100 MB/sec, 6GB/min, 360 GB/hour … I assumed you’d be working with *uncompressed* TIFFs, which would equate to uncompressed video sizes, I’m assuming.
If you want, you can make a TIFF at 1920×1080, check its size, then do the math.
Anybody else, please feel free to correct my figures …

I understand your point but if I had the chance of knowing the size of one tiff frame I wound,t be asking help hahaah !!!
I am a little confused because some collegue that works at post production house facilities told me that the size of one tiff frame of HD SR 4:4:4 is 10MB. Hence, it would be just 18GB for one minutes of footage at 30i frame rate.
But I still think that is not as much hard disk space as it would be.

Note that you will receive TIFFs that have been made from this format.An uncompressed 8-bpc 1920×1080 TIFF (which can be made with AE or PS alone) came out to be 5.9 MB. Maybe your Post person is talking about 10-bpc TIFFs. (10-bit-per-channel)
There’s no such thing as “a TIFF frame of HD SR 4:4:4”. I think we’re talking apples (TIFFs) and oranges (HD SR compressed footage). You will not be working in HD SR format — you will be working in 1920×1080 uncompressed TIFFs, right?
You need to know if they want 8-bpc or 10-bpc TIFFs, at what compression, if any. You must know *exactly* what the post house wants from you, in terms more specific than you’ve given us so far… 🙂

January 30, 2008 at 9:12 pmHDCAM SR is 10bit RGB.
Work with Quicktimes/DPX/etc – formats that supports 10bits and your data rate will be 180MB/sec @ 24P.
Work with TIFFs, etc that are 16bit and your data rate will be 60% more, as you say, maybe a little less if you use LZW. No reason to use extra bits as they are not there to begin with. Render at 16bits/float – but store in a 10bit format.
General recommendation is 2gig ram/core – the 8gig ram suggestion is to make the most use of your extra cores for rendering.

I am sure that they want a 10 bpc tiff secuence. what I am a bit confused if it is ok for them to recieve from me a 10 bpc tiff secuence to join with the rest of the video that was transfer to HD SR 4:4:4What I haven’t told you is this… The footage will be capture on film and then it will be transfer to HD SR 4:4:4. They will work ON LIne at that resolution, I will make the effects with tiff secuence of that footage and they will end up delivering the final video with my effects integrated to TV channel in HD SR 1920×1080 59,97i.
That will be the process.
