  • HD Extreme & Z1U – captured footage is soft

OK, I’ve had this card for almost a year now and I have tried a million things and nothing has worked.

    System Specs:
    Windows XP 64bit
    HD Extreme
    Decklink V6.6
Z1U attached through component cables to the HD Extreme

The entire reason for this setup was to capture a live video production directly to hard drive in an uncompressed format.

However, I always record a tape in HDV just in case something happens. Now, after capturing, I will load the BM .avi file into Vegas and if I load the exact same footage off the HDV tape and compare the two, the HDV tape is much sharper than the BM footage!

I just looked through the archives here and I have seen many posts about soft or fuzzy footage when capturing using the component IN on the BM card. So, what gives?

Is there a firware update or some kind of special setting I should use when capturing via compenent cables to get the same sharpness and resolution that is being output?

I also tried taking my HDV tape, loading it into the camera and attaching my component cables to my TV. The image is sharp as a tack. I then plug the cables back into the BM card and capture the exact same video feed and the resulting file is soft. So I know it isn’t the camera or the footage.

Any help is greatly appreciated because at this point I feel like I wasted $1000.
