HD Extreme audio clicks and video blacks
Hi,
I was trying to install HD Extreme to the PC with recommended Intel motherboard. The problem was that during ingest strange dashes were seen on the very left of the analog component video input and video was changing to the “INPUT NOT DETECTED” Decklink message for two frames every several seconds. The feeling was that there is some disturbance on video input. We have tried several different sources and settings without success. Changing the card to SD Extreme solved all problems.
By the way, we tested this with two different HD Extreme cards.
My idea was that motherboard is wrong and incorrect interrupts or memory causes the problem.Later I put one of these HD Extreme cards into PowerMac G5 Quad. It was previously running SD Extreme without problems. However, this HD Extreme is also causing problems – there are audio clicks every 2-5seconds and video switches to black (its like sync fails) every ~10 seconds.
Do you have an idea on what might be wrong besides the whole shipment of HD Extreme cards is wrong.

Do you have Black Burst generator connected?
I have expirience similar problems but not so frequent like yours. I have changed all my cables from BB generator to all my studio equipment and now is like one in 20 minutes or so, or even without one but is still there. SD extreme in same machine all OK. Machine is Supermicro X6DAE. -
Hi,
I have connected Composite out from my Betacam deck to Ref In of Decklink. Usual setup. Strange results. Is HD version in any way more sensitive to reference signal? It makes no sense to me – it should work just fine without reference at all.

I too have this odd problem on one of two systems I assembled. Both have an Intel D975xbx board and HD Extremes. The one having capture problems has two sticks of 1GB DDR533 PNY Optima-brand RAM and a striped set made out of two Hitachi 250GB SATA drives, and the motherboard is a replacement by the dealer (first one never worked, was DOA). Also, I’m not very confident on the Burst Electronics BG-2 blackburst generator, but I have no broadcast meters at hand to test it out. The system that captures PERFECTLY fine has 2 sticks of 1 GB Corsair XMS DDR667 RAM (DDR675 capable) and two Seagate Barracuda SATA drives. Both RAIDs are configured exactly the same, using the Silicon Image controller. I haven’t been able to do proper testing, but three possible scenarios come to mind: A) some kind of bus bottleneck (which theoretically is not supposed to happen) caused somewhere in the motherboard, B) sync generator is not providing a signal strong/stable enough for the Decklink, or C) either the motherboard or the Decklink is faulty in some way.
As soon as I do some testing I’ll post my results here.
