  HD Extreme 3 Downconvert to SD?

  I am running an extreme 3 card and FCP 6.0.5 OSX 10.5.7 I bring in some RED footage and put it in a 1080 Seq. I use the BM easy setup for HD 1080 23.98 10bit. The clip is 23.98 fps as well. I have selected the down convert option in the deck link control panel. Yet when I play down the clip the image on my SD NTSC monitor jumps to about double the size as it plays and when I stop playback the clip is again letterboxed on the SD monitor. How can I get it so the image remains letterboxed when I play down and edit?
