I’m not trying to be argumentative. This is certainly a very valid point-of-view, but I think you have to be careful to differentiate “standardize” from “will accept”. In the film-centric world of LA, I can see where HD-D5 is of interest, but PBS states in their Red Book they request HDCAM. CBS will also now take HDCAM-SR. Bottom line is that while most of the bigger operations will accept HD-D5, it isn’t at the exclusion of HDCAM or even the house standard. The “Elvis” mini-series is being conformed locally and that will be delivered on HDCAM.

Jeff,
Sorry, I was wrong. This is being cut 23.98sfP, but being delivered HD-D5 1080i.

May 3, 2005 at 1:29 amI work for a PBS station and I can tell you the “approved” format for delivery to PBS is HDCAM 1080i. We have chosen the 720P varicam as our acquisition format thus a cross convert to 1080i will be necessary at some point along the line, probably when we add closed captioning.

May 4, 2005 at 6:52 amI need to make a correction. I meant to say,
“All of the COMMERCIAL broadcast networks have standardized on D5HD, for now.”
My pledge to PBS was not big enough, so they have to suffer with HDCAM. 😎

May 7, 2005 at 7:51 amWhoa, what was the question? The answer for HD delivery media will be dictated by “the broadcaster you serve”(TBYS). It will be one of a few tape choices that TBYS offers due to the fact it has to execute media playback & recording with vcr simplicity. File delivery won’t happen til there is only one,(or three) proprietary, hard-copy formats TBYS requires you to deliver in. The more things change… As for upconverted SD, TBIS says no thanks. TS
