HD Data/Storage Chart
Posted by Joe Huggins on January 13, 2009 at 4:47 pmMen,
I have an old copy of a chart on formats, data rates, bit depth, file sizes, etc. for 2K, HD, Avid compressions, DVCPro, etc. That chart is old and did not show ProRes or Red info. I have no idea where the chart came from. It may have been from this site.
Do you know where a current one-page info sheet can be downloaded?
Thanks, Film Joe

January 13, 2009 at 5:32 pmYou can download the free AJA Data Rate calculator. It doesn’t have Red info though, but it does have uncompressed 2K.

January 14, 2009 at 2:14 pmThanks, I already have that. I was looking for a summary chart not a software that posts the various resolutions, bit rates, and storage per hours.
Any ideas where I got the old one I have? Joe

January 14, 2009 at 2:18 pmThanks, but I am not looking for a software calculator. I’m looking for a printed chart of resolutions (2K- various Avid resolutions – tape resolutions – FCP etc,) that can be referenced quickly to show bit rate and storage size for an hour of material in each rez.
I have an old chart taken from a site or manual, but it needs to be updated. Any ideas on printed references?
Joe

I tried to send a jpg and pdf of the chart but neither would upload. the pdf was not a recognized file at 64K and the jpeg was 600K and ‘too large’, then I made a flash movie of the one frame that would not up load. So I dont’ know how to get an image to you that is readable.
suggestion?
Thanks, Film Joe

I have been using dropbox for sharing files and images and I love it. It is the best thing since the internet, seriously. http://www.getdropbox.com
Put a file in the “public” folder right click on file and “copy public link” and done.

January 27, 2009 at 8:52 pmThat’s great! I am sure one of the pro’s should be able to recognize that! Who knows maybe somebody will even make a custom new updated chart!
Cheers,
Elijah
