HD cameras capabable of shooting 25 fps & 30 fps.
I will be editing 720p video shot by a variety of DP’s in Europe, Asia and the US. Editing on an Avid Media Composer/Nitrus DX system, we need consistent frame rates for all incoming footage. It’s possible to convert rates, but render times are long and quality suffers. We need to suggest appropriate cameras for our crews to use so that they can all send footage to our US edit suite that will work easily and well with our US footage. We are currently shooting and editing 720P 59.94fps but could also edit at 24fps or 29.97fps.
Here’s the big question: What cameras are readily available in most major markets globally which can shoot at NTSC frame rates in HD? The only cameras which I’m personally familiar with which can do this are the Sony EX1 and EX3 which allow switching between the PAL and NTSC frame rates. I do know that some of the P2 cameras are manufacured for just a single standard, but I’m not sure if this is true for all P2 format cameras. Any advice so I can compile a list to give to my shooters would be very helpful. Thanks!

Sony’s original HDV camcorder, the Z1, is NTSC/PAL switchable, but interlaced only.
I believe Canon’s new EOS 7D progressive HD video-capable DSLR is switchable between NTSC & PAL recording (24p/25p/30p/50p/60p).

Also: Are you certain the Sony EX1 & EX3 are PAL/NTSC switchable? Sony’s spec sheets seem to indicate otherwise.

Thanks for the info on the Z1. I’m trying to avoid HDV but it will work in a pinch. Yes, the EX1 and EX3 are easily switchable. I’ve rented Z1’s in Europe and India and used them to shoot 30 and 60 fps.

Our Panasonic HPX500 switches between 59.94 and 50 Hz system frequencies. Then there are many additional choices of timebases within those master frequencies.
