    Hey guys,

I’m working on a bunch of commercials shot on an HVX with p2 cards. The show was shot HD 720 at 24p 16×9.

As I have come to understand, this is a 16×9 only format. What are people doing so they can make a matted 4×3 master…I have tried dumping down to DVCpro50, but it looks like poop (even worse as it was shot all in slow-motion)

I was also wondering, if there is a way to make a 4×3 master, without black bars, cropping out the sides, etc. how would I go about that??

Also, we will be taking the comemrcials to a transferhouse to get converted to tape for broadcast on cable. anything I need to know about that? (we have a call into the cable company, waiting for it to be returned)

Other then some many minor problems, the process has been smooth. Shane, thanks for that awesome tutorial, it saved our butts.

All of this is real easy using an AJA Kona card. Simply cut in HD, then downconvert on the fly to SD on output. You can Letterbox or Center Punch your output for a 4:3 master.

cool walter. i’ll tyr and finagle the production to buy one.

FYI, I am running a dual 1.8 g5, 2 gigs of ram, fcp studio fully updated and tiger.

    I’m not sure it’s pci-e.

which aja kona card would you recomend??

Dual 1.8…that won’t be PCIe. So the magnificent Kona 3 is out of the question. The Kona LH is a good card.
