  • Having trouble downconverting DVC proHD to SD

Posted by Sean Davison on April 4, 2006 at 9:17 am

Im trying to play a DVC ProHD sequence from FCP 5.04. My timeline is set to DVC Pro HD, My Video out is set to Blackmagic 8 bit. My Monitor is connected to my Multibridge via YUV and the multibridge is connected to one of the SDI outs on the Pro HD Dual card. The monitor is only showing still frames and when I press play the Aspect ratio narrows. (The timeline plays fine) I have tried all the settings in the control panel.

    Hi Sean,

What size and framerate is your DVCPRO HD sequence?

We down convert 720p59.94 to NTSC, 1080i50 to PAL and 1080/23.98PsF and 59.94i to NTSC.

    regards

Didnt realise you had to set video output to Blackmagic 1080i 50 ! Been trying to do it at sd 8 bit!

I’m glad your problem is solved. I have a different problem, I can get an SD output with the software down conversion enabled in the Blackmagic preference panel and FCP set to HDTV50i 25 Hz (my timeline is PAL DVCproHD) but the image is clearly pixelated.

Does anybody know how to activate the hardware down conversion, and is it better ?

    My system : G5 2x2GHz, 3.5 GB ram, Mac OS X.4.5, FCP 5.0.4, QT 7.0.4, Decklink drivers 5.4.2

    With my reagrds,

Sorry, I didn’t do my homework, hardware down conversion is apparently only supported on the Deckling HD pro. I guess with an HD plus I’m stuck with the software down conversion, however the quality is not satisfactory, what a disapointment. I will try and do a down conversion inside FCP and see if I get a better result, the only problem is it’s going to take many many hours of rendering.

    Cheers,
