Having some problems with vegas 6.0

As the topic says, i’m having some really wierd problems with vegas.
Ive had this copy of vegas for over a year, and it has never let me down, and ive made lots of videos with it, and never really encountered any problems until now.
Ive made a 17 minutes long video, it took me quite some time and now when im finally ready to render it to make it complete, some kind of error occurs…
At first, the loading goes on as usual, but then all of a sudden, it freezes at some percent and wont continue. The video preview window turns black every time, and i cant do anything with the vegas window except to press exit, and it says
‘a background operation is currently in progress.
vegas cannot shut down until this operation is complete or cancelled’. But there is no progress running? the % meter doesnt even move, and ive waited for 30 minutes or more for it to finish…so, everything freezes up and it wont continue to work.
I have windows vista, but as i said, ive never had this problem before.
I have quite a lot of video FX’s and fades, if that means something…
This movie was supposed to be done today, so this is kinda frustrating.. i would be really thankful if you could help me out. thanks!

1] What System specs are you running on?
2] When did you switch to Vista? Prior, during or after working on this Project?
3] Have you installed V6 on a newer machine? And have you registered your version of Vegas on this “new” machine?
4] Have you any larger format Stills in your Project?
5] Are you running any AntiVirus s/w?
6] What space is available on the Hard disc are you editing on? And is it your System drive that you are editing on?
7] Does your Project Settings reflect your Media you are using? If not, how? And what percentage of Media is non-system settings?
