Has anyone used the Diopter plug-in?
I’m producing a video where I want to simulate the effect of looking through a lens, in a visually interesting way. There’s an AFX plug-in I came across called ‘Diopter,’ from a firm called The Waenderer https://youtu.be/ij8de9mrNuQ. However, when I try to download the trial version to test it, on to my Macbook, I can’t seem to do so successfully. So my 2 questions on this are:
-Has anyone use the Diopter plug-in, and if so did you have a good experience?
-Also if so, did you have any trouble downloading it, particularly the trial version for Mac? When I click the related trial link https://aescripts.com/diopter/, I download a file that, when I click on it, actually opens up Premiere Pro, rather than AFX. And I don’t see any signs that that plug-in has been added to AFX (or PPro for that matter, although this is supposed to be a AFX plug-in).
And finally, whether you’ve used this or not, I’d be interested if anyone has used similar plug-ins or just effects that simulate looking through a lens.

That’s a neat plugin, but I’ve not used it. I do have a couple of AEScript plugins though and they have refused to install into AE 2023, however it is possible to copy the plugin files from one folder to the correct one and they work. I imagine AEScripts are working on a fix.
As to the fact it’s only installing in PP, that’s probably related. But as a workaround, try installing an older version of AE and see if it installs to that plugin folder (then copy it)
Finally, it’s “only” $39.99 so it’s up to you, but with a little bit of work using adjustment layers, the bulge and magnify effects and masking, I imagine you could get pretty close without the plugin.

Thanks for your response and those helpful tips, Graham! I’ll look at those approaches, and especially appreciate the idea of making my own ‘diopter’ effect using adjustment layers along with the Bulge and Magnify FX. I’ll update my post later with any results.
