I’m working with 1080 @ 29.97 footage, but then added a video screen capture on top of it which was captured at 1280×1024 @ 30fps. When that is on top of the main video playback comes to a near stop. Audio And video are choppy at best.

I’m more of an AE user, so I’m a bit lost here. Considering I only had some basic premiere training back in school 10 years ago I’m doing pretty good. I’m not sure how to look this up, or if it’s just a problem.

In AE I can pre-render to RAM to preview the area. Premiere seemed much faster for all of this until just now.

So far, as long as the timeline is yellow at top, it’s played smoothly. I don’t quite need the full size, so I’m taking it down to 1350×1080 because that’s as big as it will be, and rendering it to Quicktime H.264 to make sure Premiere creates a converts a file for editing. The file I imported was AVI and I’m guessing it was some funky codec for screen capture.

It’ll have some loss in quaity, but it won’t be noticeable to my audience for this. Most of the time it will be using only a quarter of the screen anyway. With the amount of time it’s taking to encode I’ll guess it has to do with the current format, but any advice is appreciated.

You could try rendering the screen capture video out of Premiere as an AVI or MOV then re-import. Might play better then.
