In the video linked below, you will see a an animated figure. It’s entire body is blue, it has white teeth, two arms, two legs and white eyes. I’m new to video editing, and lately I’ve been wondering about a wonderful video like this one, a video that has this type of animated character (I’ll call the character I’m referring to “Blue Guy”). This is what I’ve been wondering:

    1) Could you create Blue Guy with Vegas Pro? Or would you need to use another editing program like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer in order to create Blue Guy?

    2) What is the technique called that the video editor used to create Blue Guy? In other words, what 2, 3, or 4 keywords would you type into Google in order to find videos, tutorials and information that would teach a newbie how to make Blue Guy.

I’ve watched a lot of Vegas tutorials at Youtube. Odd, none of them show you how to make something like Blue Guy. I wonder why that is. A Vegas tutorial that shows you how to make a Blue Guy would get a ton of hits! A big thanks in advance on shedding light on how someone could go about of making an animated figure like Blue Guy.

A little much needed update here: Blue Guy is gone. The video editor switched videos and replaced the video that Blue Guy was in with a completely different video. That’s okay, because the new video has an animated character in it too. Instead of Blue Guy there’s an animated robot in the new video. The robot has a number on it. That number is 06. You’ll see that number is at the bottom of the robot. In the new video you’ll see that the animated robot appears at the 8s mark and runs to the 25s mark. Sorry for the confusion, I imagine many were puzzled when they didn’t see Blue Guy in the video. But that’s the Internet for you, it can be pretty fluid at times 🙂

Anyway, same question about the animated robot. Would it be possible to make the exact same robot with Vegas Pro?

Vegas can do a lot of touch up effects, but if you want to sculpt 3D objects and animate them then you’re going to need a 3D modeling program.

You keep linking to a video that changes constantly so we can’t see the video you are referring to. As Alex said, if you want to create 3D characters you will need a 3D modeling program. Neither Vegas Pro nor, Adobe Premiere Pro, nor Final Cut Pro, nor Avid Media Composer will create 3D models.

I definitely can see how the link I posted may have confused some people out there. Again, I apologize to everyone for the confusion.

The link has been pretty consistent for the last couple of days in that the cute little animated robot appears in the video when you fast forward to the 8 second mark. I envy people who have the ability to create characters like the animated robot character seen in the short video. Those people are wizards! The expression “top gun” comes to mind, too…

Since I posted the thread starter, I came to realize that a person would need to use Adobe Flash in order to create the robot. It looks like I was wrong about that??? Because when I googled “3D modeling software” to my surprise Adobe Flash was not on the list, the list has a bunch of names that sound foreign:

[Pete Mack] “The link has been pretty consistent for the last couple of days in that the cute little animated robot appears in the video when you fast forward to the 8 second mark. “

Actually, the video constantly changes because it’s an advertisement for that guys work but I see now that if you click immediately before the video changes there is a 3D robot at 8 seconds.

That was definitely done in a 3D modeling program like Maya, Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max, Blender, etc. Those tools are for some serious 3D content creation but luckily, you don’t have to be a wizard to get started because there are easier tools that you can buy content for.

If I were you, I would start with the free DAZ Studio 4.5. It comes with some of it’s own content or you can probably buy a robot model for a few bucks and animate it in DAZ Studio and include it in your video production fairly easily. There are also products like Reallusion iClone that make 3D scene animation a lot easier than doing it in one of the professional programs mentioned earlier.

You will still need to invest some time but it’s a lot of fun and there are a lot of tutorials on both the DAZ 3D and Reallusion web site to help you get started.

Yea, Flash is 2D only and it’s pretty much a dead technology that Adobe has abandoned. It would be senseless to learn it now. That list is a good overview of all the 3D modeling software that is out there although as I had mentioned, Maya, Cinema 4D, and 3D Studio Max are the top 3.

You’re welcome. With a little investment of time you can have great fun with 3D animation. Good luck.

I apologize for bumping an old thread, but I noticed the same exact question was asked at different places under different names:
