Hard Drive RPM requirements for editing HD footage?
I am looking for a MAC or PC to edit HD footage with my Canon XH-A1. I see that everything can be upgraded to accommodate HD(ram, processor, video card, etc.). I was told the Mac Pro 8-core would be sufficient in handling HD since it’s got great specs.
But one thing i never see different is RPM’s on a hard drive. On just about all the computers i see that the RPM is 7200 but is that fast enought to transfer HD? i don’t want dropped frames or anything like that. I believe i have seen hard drives in the 10000 range but only rarely. I have a 7200 rpm hard drive right now and sometimes it drops frames on SD footage! Is it just that my other specs can’t keep up?
So what RPM do i need for HD footage? Do raid and sata drives differ on that? Does hard drive speed even matter? Thanks for any help.
