  • Handling play out audio delays

We’re setting up Premiere CS6 on a new iMac with an AJA T-Tap to a broadcast monitor. The initial plan had been to monitor audio through headphones from the iMac’s audio output and watch the video on broadcast monitor. However, there is a significant delay in the audio playing through the headphone jack on the computer and the video showing up through the T-Tap so everything seems out of sync.

Any suggestions for fixing this? I realize the upcoming Premiere CC allows timing adjustment of the audio on play out to fix issues like this – but that’s still a month away. Can anyone recommend an external delay box that provide a headphone jack that I could place between the computer and the speakers? Or should I just ship this T-Tap back and get an ioXT which has a headphone jack right on the front of it?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

The problem lies with LEDs. They have an inherent delay in decoding the picture. There’s also a delay between the computer and the t-tap. So plugging into the headphones on the AJA would be better, but not perfect. You need to monitor the audio at the same output source as the video. The LCD. Plug into the headphone or audio out on your LCD and feed that to your speakers.
