  • handling P2 HD footage in SD project to pan and scan

I want to export P2 HD footage (panasonic HPX500) from a Avid HD project to an After Effects SD project. I wanted to reposition the image an pan and scan using the extra pixels. Now I notice that the HD footage in the SD after effects project looks bad (scaled to 100%). I need to scale it down in order to make it look good, but then I can not pan and scan. Any suggestions ? export settings from AVID ? Import settings in AE ? Can I import P2 MXF directly in AE CS5 ?
    Thanks for you help

So I assume this is DVCPro HD footage. You can work with the P2 media natively from CS3 onward. DVCPro HD is thin raster so if you create a comp from a clip it will display with 1.33 or 1.5 PAR depending on if the clip is 720 or 1080. You can drop the clips directly into an SD comp and AE will handle the PAR issues for you. I don’t know how you are exporting the media from Avid and you might want to check them outside of AE to be sure your export is not introducing problems.
