Handed 24pN footage to edit.. how to get it back out.
The other day a client handed me a drive full of HVX200 footage that from what I can tell was shot at 720 / 24pN. It imports fine into FCP and edits fine. I’m having trouble understanding how to get him the final product. It seems to be that to monitor on an external monitor I need an HD card in my G5.. no sending over firewire with FCP inserting a proper pulldown to get it to play out. Is that correct? What about exporting a Quicktime for making a dvd?

Are you trying to use the deck as a playthrough device in Firewire? It should work, just connect and then go into the camera’s MCR mode. You’ll then have it as an External playback device in FCP. From there you just press the dub button on the HVX and you should see your timeline displayed with pulldown.

Well, how does he want it? Knowing what the final delivery specs are is very important. You can just export a self contained QT file and get that to him on a hard drive (or data DVD if it will fit). But the question is, what does he want?

If you have the camera, or AJ-HD1200 deck, you can view to a monitor thru them. Otherwise you need an HD capture card. Just like to monitor DV you need to route thru a DV camera or deck.
