handbrake?
Posted by Suzin Daly on August 5, 2008 at 4:25 amI am not sure where to go with this question, I need to rip movie DVD, legally. I do a local TV Show where we talk to independent film makers and show their films.
I tried Handbrake which is easy only problem is makes mp4 can’t bring it onto the FCP time line. Looking at the guidelines says suppose to be able to do mov. I can’t see where that is an option for MOV.
What I have been doing is using Vegas to capture onto the time line render mov then bringing it over to FCP. Then re render on the timeline. I would love to be able to rip a DVD with MAC and get an MOV.

August 5, 2008 at 4:39 amThe ripper of choice for most FCP editors is MPEG Streamclip, and it’s available for free as well.

August 5, 2008 at 6:49 amBetter yet I am sure that these independent filmmakers will want there film shown in the HIGHEST quality possible, and I am willing to bet that they will provide you with ether a copy on tape or a mov file exported from there editing program. Both would provide you with MUCH BETTER quality end product.

August 5, 2008 at 7:19 amI am sorry if you took my suggestion the wrote way, I in no way wanted to come across are rude or snobby, I was just simply suggestion that there are he could probably get better quality sources from the filmmakers. After all he did say that it is for a TV show so why not try and get the best quality you can when assembling your show for broad cast.

No suggestion of rude or snobby, I just figure you have previously undisclosed psychic abilities, of which the rest of us were not aware.

August 5, 2008 at 11:19 amIt’s my understanding you can’t put an MPEG on Final Cut Pro timeline. Anytime I put an MPEG on the time line I might get video but not audio.

“Correct. As David suggests, most of us use MPEG Streamclip, a free application to rip DVDs into Quicktime movies.

August 5, 2008 at 11:32 amSuggesting using MPEG streamclip instead of Handbrake. I haven’t taken a look at it yet, but is it complicated? I am new to FCP and DVD Rippers.

August 5, 2008 at 11:34 amI will download it and take a look. Hopefully it’s not to complicated. I am new to all this. I might come back for assistance. If it will rip to quicktime movie that would be awesome.
