    Has anyone tried DVDxDV? It’s not free, but I’ve been pretty pleased with it. You can choose which chapters of the DVD to rip. Rips to QT movies which work well in the FCP timeline.

    Have you tried ripping it as an AVI and setting the codec to AVC/H.264? You can then drop that file into FCP just make sure you set deinterlace on in the picture setting box, and you do a 2 pass encoding, it may take awhile but the quality is great.
