I’m trying to add a Motion Master template to a
Final Cut Pro 720p50 timeline:
“Satin Blue-Lower Third Pal”
First I open the template as a copy in Motion to
change the settings to XDCAM EX 720p50.
When I click ok, I can see the preset switch to:
Preset: HDV 720p25, this is confirmed when I go back to the
project properties, it just switches back to HDV 720p25.
(Motion Preferences is set to XDCAM EX 720p50 by the way).
Anyway, when I save it as a new template it looks fine in the
FCP timeline, the preview plays fine but when I render,
the template “freezes” after 3 seconds (total duration is 6 seconds). I also tried applying the standard Satin Blue-Lower Third Pal, without trying to change to 720p50 (which switches to HDV 720p25 anyway), same thing happens: plays fine in preview (orange bar showing in timeline) but after render template freezes after 3 seconds. Finally, I tried copying the XDCAM EX 720p50 footage to a DV Pal timeline and here everything works fine, in preview and after render. Any Ideas?

You can’t take an SD template and just change the project preset to an HD preset and expect the template to work correctly – it won’t. What you can do is go ahead an embed one of the existing Motion DS templates into your HD project and then scale it up in FCP to fit – of course, it will be soft. You may also need to change the way FCP renders Motion projects for best results: Sequence > Settings > Render Control tab.

I solved the problem as follows:
-created a new project in Motion with XDCAM EX 720p50 settings
-opened “Satin” SD Template
-“dragged” Template Layers into XDCAM EX project’ layers
– saved XDCAM EX project as template
After that I could just apply the new template in FCP,
works perfect,

And you didn’t have to resize or adjust any of the SD elements in the HD project? I don’t see how that’s possible.
