    Hi,
I haven’t done much with hair in C4D, but I’m trying it for some things. I notice that every time i click on a parameter in the hair material the system hangs for about 20 secs’ It makes it impossible to work. I’ve tried reducing the hairs, and turning off dynamics, but can’t seem to find what’s causing the lag. Anyone have some suggestions as to where this might be occurring. C4D is fine when I’m not using hair.

mac/pc? OS version? version of C4D? Graphics card and OGL settings? Not that I’m going to know, I’ve never seen that happen, but it might be useful info.

    I’m sorry,
    Windows XP Pro SP 2
C4D V10, and V11 (same results, but worse in V10)
NVidia Quadro FX 4600, Software Shading used in C4D
    3 gb RAM

As a point of reference, can you go to this site and under “downloads” get “plants” and run it.

(this is not my site, btw)

It has hair and takes about 10 seconds to render on an XP Pro system, 1.8G, Dual Core, 2G-Ram system.

    Hi,
The render time is not the problem at this point, it’s some type of refresh problem happening. It actually renders fairly quickly. I will look at your suggestion as an alternative though,
    Thanks,
    Mike

I’ve been able to narrow it down to the hair material. If I make changes to the parameters within the hair object, no lag. When I open the hair material to make changes, I get the lag?

I’ve had that issue at times when hair dynamics was enabled. If it is you might try turning it off until you’re ready to run some animation tests. The problem is worse if you are displaying hair lines rather than guides in the editor.

Dynamics are off, and only display guides is on. I’ve even tried lowring the number of hairs to 1, and it still gives the 20 sec delay when I’m inside the hair material only. Weird.

Hmmm, that is weird. What version are you using?

Software shading? Why not Open GL?

    I’ve tried both V10 and V11
