    Pretty excited about 10.1.2.

    I’m shooting a c100/5diii. I have a couple questions about best ingest/export practice:

    1. If I create only proxies, and then choose 422 for my final export, will the conversion be sourced (right word?) from the original files, or the proxies? Does this matter?

    2. If I only use proxies for footage originally shot h.264, am I at a disadvantage when adding color correction vs using optimized 422? Alt phrasing: Are the proxy files more compressed than the original media? Would it make a difference to upres further to 422 if I expect to add color in the edit?

    3. Related to question #1, if I intend to pass off a project to a colorist, is there any reason not to edit in proxy and then export a prores422 of only the final cut?

    Thanks a mill

    1. yes, it does matter, recreate from originals.
    2. proxies are compressed to f*ck, so if fine detail is important to your eye when setting a colour correction, then yes, you should colour correct using the ProRes media
    3. no, there’s no reason not to (how many negatives can we get into a sentence?)
