For people attempting to generate MXF files that they can relink to their avid projects.

This is an overview based on my 29.97 timeline. I won’t get too specific, because your mileage WILL vary.

(note: this applies to 7.02. In 7.03, reel name detection is rumored to be supported.)

    • Consolidate your avid timeline with handles.
    • Export an EDL from Avid.
    • import the media and EDL into resolve, expand with max handles.
    • render as unc_8bit_rgb QT (to avoid gamma shifts) at 30fps.
    • Download and open Metacheater, and import all QT in.
    • change framerates to 29.97 and add tape names to match Avid sources.
    • Generate ALE file.
    • Import ALE into a new Avid bin. (don’t set log options to merge) Now you have a QT based offline.
    • Batch import to fill offline clips with QT sources.
    • Avid now has all your QT’s converted to MXF.
    • Move your old MXF media out of the “Avid Mediafiles” directory. Your original proj will go offline.
    • Select all the clips in your original bin, relink master files (don’t confine to current proj though)

Wow. This is clearly not a workaround that anyone grading a longform project would ever want to do. Perhaps BM should have tested the Avid workflow before releasing and charging people for Avid DNxHD licensing. Hope they work it out quickly.
