    Hi,

I use a PC under Windows 7 with a nVidia GTX 770 GC with 4 MB VRAM and an Intel i7 CPU (4 processeurs, 8 threads).
All is fine except that in AE CS6 I cannot activate the CUDA for ray-tracing.

This option is in Menu Edit > Preferences > Previews
then on top right push on “GPU information…” button.
    Usually displayed settings are next:

    Ray-tracing : CPU
(GPU not available – incompatible device or display driver)

I found on the web that we can edit the AE file “raytracer_supported_cards.txt” located in AE program directory, and add the line “GeForce GTX 770” but it failed with an error (not blocking) in loaded AE, so I removed it.
But adding that line, in AE Edit > Preferences > Previews, I can well select the GPU and the Cuda is activated.

But due to the error at loading I removed the reference to GTX 770 in txt file.

    Question:
I have the latest drive for GTX 770. How to proceed to activate the Cuda is AE CS6 without error ?

    Thanks.

NB. I have not store it in the default Adobe folder but in another one (I edited the txt file accordingly)

That GPU was added in After Effects CC (12.1):

You mean that there is NO solution for CS6 ?
What do users who do not want upgrade to CC ? They remain stuck with their issue although they paid the high price ? 🙁

I found something that you should know if you work for Adobe
    https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads?sid=471928

I need the confirmation from Adobe that this fix resolves the problem on AE CS6 as at first sight it does not with my configuration.

    Thanks

Hi Thierry, I doubt that editing/hacking the “raytracer_supported_cards.txt” is supported or encouraged by Adobe. I think you should check further, on the Web, to see what other users with your GPU have experienced.

I contacted nVidia Support about my issue with GTX 770.

nVidia support recommend either upgrade to AE CC or from AE CS6 v11.0 to v11.0.4 as explained here :
    https://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2012/05/after-effects-cs6-11-0-1-update-bug-fixes-and-added-gpu-and-3d-renderer-support.html

Then I edited the supported_card.txt file as nVidia suggested and added a line GeForce GTX 770.
I launched AE. In Edit > Preferencec > Previews, the GPU was available and cuda found all the VRAM.
This upgrade resolved the GPU/Cuda issue (without error, and it run up to 6 times faster in rendering).

I’m glad you’ve sorted out your issue AND reported back.

I was going to suggest hacking the Prefs.txt which MAY remove the error message but I first wanted to see what you managed to source from the Web.

    Cheers
