GTX 285 or Matrox RT.X2

There’s no three-layer limitation if you’ve applied the updates to Premiere Pro CS5.

The most recent update is the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) update. Be sure to install that.

From experience, that matrix card can be a real pain to set up. And, if you want to share your project across other machines they will need the same card … so, make sure you really need it before you buy it. The HTC should be ok for pretty much anything.

I am a huge fan of Matrox.
I was also a user of RT.X2 and Axio at several facilities.

However I think you’ll find that with the Mercury playback engine and Adobe shifting to that architecture that Matrox is moving on from those platforms to their external hardware.

So unless you’re getting it cheap, I’m not sure it’s a wise investment at this point. You might look at their external hardware options to be more future proof.

Hi Chin
The RT2X uses hardware compression for video capture which means you must have another RT2X on any other machine that wants to work on the project. I had this problem myself and ended up having to re-capture everything so I could work on the project! I use a gtx265 with lots of RAM – 1.5G – which works very well with CS5 so a 285 will be fine, just get one Ruth as much RAM as you can.

RT2X hardware accelerates matrox fx and will allow you to see the capture window while you capture rather than having to use your camera monitor. You can also use an output to monitor your timeline directly. But from what you said I would say that the gtx285 is going to do all you want and that an RT2X isn’t what you really want. After all, you are still going to want a graphics card even with a matrox card.
