Apologies for being slightly OT – not AE specific anyway.
We are planning to use a treadmill to film the talent walking in front of a green screen. Has anyone got any experience or tips on this. Does anyone know of an equipment hire company in the UK (London or Southern region) that can provide this sort of thing? Otherwise it looks like we might have to buy one on Ebay and customise and paint it – they don’t seem cheap, even second hand.

    thanks
    James

First off are you going to need the whole person?, if so try this. 1. Get your camera set shoot the treadmill first without subject and create a seperate mask layer just for the treadmill. Here is the key you can light the treadmill different for a different kind of key. Maybe a Luma key. You could also try blue tape which is available at the hardware store to mask it off and shoot it. Let us know if you pull it off.

We did something similar-ish a while ago. We actually had access to a treadmill, but we weren’t allowed to wreck it or paint it. In the end, we decided not to use it, because we didn’t need a full length shot. Instead, with a bit of practise, out ‘talent’ was able to walk on the spot in a convincing enough manner. Maybe it’s an option for you?

    Alternatively, there’s this?

Don’t add the handles, and paint it green??

Sounds like you were lucky with your actor – we did a music video with walking on the spot and it looks a bit wierd. I think the problem with the Argos walking machine is that, as it is unpowered, you need to hold the handles to get the belt to move. I suppose the other option would be to attach a wire to the actor to give him something to pull against. I am trying to get a powered machine on ebay, but they seem to go for
