  • Green frames in exported footage…

I’ve been using FCP then FCPX on my 2009 MacPro since it was new and had few editing issues during the 12 years of ownership. I generally import VHS, cine and camcorder tape footage in Quicktime.

I recently decided it was time to upgrade and streamline my editing setup and went for a 16″ MBP with M1 Pro CPU and 16gb ram. Compared to my MacPro it’s a big improvement on the though for the first time I’ve encountered the dreaded green frames on exported projects using FCPX 10.4.10.

My Projects are all pretty basic and include a few standard gaps, titles with cross fade and fade to colour transitions and that’s about it. My projects are Pal SD, 720 x 576 DV, 25i, rendered in Apple ProRes 422. I export in DV and this has worked fine for 12 years on my MacPro.

in an attempt to sort this out I’ve deleted render files and preferences, tried different project and export settings but can’t get rid of the green frames in my exports until I delete all titles and transitions leaving the clips then projects export fine. I’ve reinstalled FCPX and followed instructions to fully remove FCPX files for a clean installation.

I edit using a RAID unit and wondered if this could be the causing my issue so I transferred footage to my MBP and edited and exported directly but the green frames are still there until I remove the gaps, titles and transitions. It’s beaten me after 4 days of trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on, there’s no point editing if I can’t use even basic gaps, titles and transitions. I’m stumped and would be grateful for ideas on how to overcome what appears to be a widely experienced issue. I can’t fathom out why it didn’t happen on my Macpro running High Sierra but it does on my MBP running Monterey.
