I’m experiencing issues with my graphics card not being up to the task – when rendering certain effects (standard FCP effects) in a 1080 – 10 bit timeline….

Others are having this issue also. See below thread.

What graphics card would be recommended (and indeed tested) in these conditions.

I’m running an NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT graphics card on a 2×2.66GHz Dual core Macpro

    FCP 6.0.2

    Cheers for any advice.

An ATI x1900 card would be a big step up from your current card.

Seconded. You’ll be amazed at the difference – I’ve just done the upgrade. Motion and Color are both smoooth!

You only realize what a mother of a card this is when you get it out of the packet and place it alongside the stock one. Whoever said size isn’t everything was wrong, sooo wrong!!

Seriously, it is a worthwhile (almost essential) upgrade.

Thanks Jerry and Jason, much appreciated – I have one on order.

I’ve read about some heat issues with this card though – I hope they’ve been addressed – as I’m dealing with heat issues already in the PCIe chamber with my ATTO R380 card – and it’s fondness of throwing a drive from my array. (Two new (heat-tested) cards on the way from the US as we speak. Thank goodness for RAID 5 and smc fan control is all I’ll say.
