  • Graphic equaliser?

    Posted by Adam Bennett on June 30, 2005 at 4:27 pm

    I want to create a graphic equaliser with solids or masks that works in tandem to the audio I’ve got. Can anyone think of a good way to do this? I thought expressions of the solids’ vertical positions in relation to the loudness of the audio, but I’ve no idea how to programme it.

    Please help!!!
    Thanks in advance people

    Hey,

    Do you mean a graphic eq, or something which shows the frequency output of your audio?

    Take care,

    Nick

    If you are looking for realism – you could export 10 different versions of the music from an audio editing program – doing a complete cut of all frequencies except for that narrow band to be represented by an individual meter (I am assuming that you want to show a graphic VU acrosss different bands – not an actual graphic equalizer)on each one. Then, import each into a comp – use the “convert audio to key frames” – finally tying the individual meter element’s position to the the value of that result.

    It would be a bit of work, but worth it if you want it to look real.

    Thanks everyone. And yes Dave, I meant showing the audio output, not actually a graphic equaliser!! Wasn’t sure what it was called.
    Don’t mind it being a bit convuluted, and this is what I had in mind Ken, but it was just the tying the bars to the audio bit that I don’t know how to do. Once I’ve converted the audio streams to keyframes how do I link them to the movement of the bars I’ll have created with either solids or imported art?

    you need to add an expression to the position property of the bar you want to animate.

    for instance, you could animate it by adding the following expression to the ‘position’ property of your bar.

    temp = thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”)
