Grainy footage on my hm700u and hm100u
Posted by Mitch Hardison on June 30, 2010 at 4:41 pmI just got these cameras and I am still trying to figure out all the settings. My gain is at 0 i guess that is as low as it can go but my footage is grainy. I am filming a well lit area at 720 HQ 24p. What am I doing wrong?

June 30, 2010 at 9:41 pmObvious question, sorry — but is DNR turned on in the ‘Processing settings? The DNR in the firmware update from around October helps a lot.
I’d recommend setting the Detail to -3 at the highest. Black stretch is also pretty useless — I wouldn’t recommend lowering the black level, but don’t use the black stretch at all.
Can you post a still or a short video?

June 30, 2010 at 10:05 pmLast question, I see the master black and the black toe. are either of them the black stretch. How do I know if I am using the black stretch? If this does not work I will post a screen shot when I get home.

June 30, 2010 at 10:12 pmblack toe == black stretch
master black == master pedestalLeave them both at default unless you have a really good reason to change them.
