How would I go about adding a gradual soft focus to my clip similar to the iMovie HD 6 preset effect?
I want the video to start off normally then gradually climax to a contrast 100 soft focus and then decrease back to normal.
As a side note, it would also be great if there was some way to make the video “shake” for a few frames.

The Defocus and Gaussian Blur etc effects (I’m not sure which one you’re going to use) all have timelines, so just apply them, set the start blur point as you like, and set the end point with all the settings set to minimum (or maximum), whichever turns the effect ‘off’.

For a quick camera shake effect, just use Pan and Crop and move the picture up or down a few pixels for a few frames.
