    Hi,

Im grading a music video with a broadcast monitor with waveform etc.
    question.
How do I achieve a deep contrasted image without exceeding the broadcast limits.
my first step is always to adjust the blacks and highlights so they are within broadcast limits.
If I want my blacks crushed more to give a deeper more contrasted look, can I crush beyond broadcast levels and simply apply a broadcast filter at the end of the project or must I always stay «in the range«

The problem being that If I do a primary adjustment then wish to tweak shadows and contrast multiple effects etc these will often crush beyond the «legal limits«

    thanks

    Hhm, a pretty vague answer.
Im using my scopes, but my question is..does crushing blacks to add more contrast still keep me briadcst safe?
Is it just that im sacrificing detail in my shadows but still safe for broadcast?

Using the YC Waveform scope you can see a dotted line above the zero level. Ideally blacks should reside above the dotted line – or at leaf be kept above zero. If you crush the blacks with the “input levels”, you should use the “output levels” to balance back towards zero.

    Hey, thanks.
Can you explain why on both my prem waveform and ex monitor i cant see the waveforms peaks and dips outside of the 0.3 to 100 range. It seems to clamp and crush everything which makes it hard to read accuratley.
I dont have any BSafe filters on that im aware of.

    Thanks
