Seems self evident but thought I’d ask.

Do you need an HDR monitor to grade or use any HDR tools in DR?

Yes, you need to be able to see what you are doing.

A number of colorists are using an off the shelve LG OLED TV for grading. If you are doing Hollywood work, you have the TV calibrated, but for a hobbyist that is not necessary.

I have five monitors running. A 32″ HDR monitor, a 32″ SDR monitor where I run Resolve, a 21″ SDR monitor where I put the scopes, a 42″ SDR LG TV to see what the SDR looks like, and a 55″ LG OLED TV for grading. The TVs are fed from a Decklink signal.

If you are just beginning, all you need for starters is a regular monitor, and a low cost HDR TV as the second monitor.
