  • Grading and final output advice sought for HDV film in FCP

    Hi guys

I’m doing my final grade on a film shot in HDV.

I’m trying to settle on a workflow for finishing this off.

I want to be able to output it as a genuine HD file, and here are my thoughts:

Method 1. Grad on an HDV timeline, then render out as HD

Method 2. Export the cut as HD and then reimport, grade that file and render the final HD version.

Will I gain any significant quality improvement by grading in HD?

Also any tips on the best way of making this footage more cinematic, richer and just generally sexier would be much appreciated!!

thanks all, oh, and happy christmas!

Not according to Graeme Natress (a respected fcp plugin author)

Just grade it in HDV then export it as uncompressed.

There should be no visual loss.
