Gradients for multiline text
Hi all,
Anyone know the best way to add a gradient to more then 1 line of text. Using the layer style (gradient overlay) or the Ramp effect can create gradients on text, but when there is more than 1 line, the gradient is applied to the whole block of text instead of each line of text.Surely there is an easy way to do this that I’m missing?!?

The only way I know how is to do it one Ramp for each line of text. But to make things easier. Just create a Ramp and a Text layer. Parent one to the other.
For subsequent text lines, just create a copy of the text layer and type in the new characters. Duplicate the Ramp layer and change parenthood accordingly.
Not too tedious once you get the hang of it. Having said all these, Aharon’s got a tutorial on multigradients, not too sure if it’ll be able to handle your initial requirements with a single gradient layer.

I’m still hoping there is an easier way, since I do a lot of animation with a lot of text and splitting the lines of text up into different layers creates some headache in animating the text.
Has anyone achieved this successfully with the new layer styles in CS3?

With Photoshop you can do a gradient with several ‘points’, where you can alter the grad to fit each line of text (presuming you don’t alter the line spacing afterwards) and if AE CS3 supports PS layer styles fully (I haven’t got CS3 yet) then it should translate across.
