GPS cordinates as text overlay-any Ideas?
I’m calling on the collective wisdom of the forum to guide me to a solution for a client request. I have an excel speadsheet with columns for frame, Latitude & Longitude for the entire 6000+ frames of the shot. The client would like that data composited over the video like a head-up display. No problem I say….oooppps, I REALLY don’t want to do this by hand frame by frame. Is there a plug in I can buy, or easy script that will read the exel file or a comma delimited text file and automatically update the data on a per frame data? I’ve gotten out of the cave after 7 years, and back into shooting and field production, so my AE plugin knollege is a little rusty. Any and all words of advice are much appreciated.

Can AE read XML files? Maybe an expression could be written and then that comma delimited file could be read in as .csv or converted to an xml file.
Flash would probably be able to do this with a little coding.
The timecode plugin comes to mind also.

Hi – My reply is a ‘little’ away from the original post date – However, I have conducted what I believe to be exactly the same exercise.
By taking the Lat / Long of the GPS data (primarily exported to CSV, but also available in the KML – I have applied some ‘math’ via MS Excel to maintain integrity of position, but create pixel movement representative of map scale. Long and Short – I have ‘Print Screened’ the area of travel from Google Earth – Populated with the GPS data so that I have a ‘direct’ overlay of the route.. then taken the CSV data ‘modded’ and applied it to a solid ~(with trapcode effect for the sake of it), positioned the initial anchor to the start point, and ‘TADA’ works a treat – A little calibration of the math, but got there.

Sounds neat. From the original post I was shooting from the hip and never did this but am intrigued and wanting to learn more.

I am at work at present, but will endeavour to try and upload some guidance (if it helps, possible send you the xls etc, that does the work)
I have it configured for approx 40mile radius of travel, and overlayed onto a screen dump from Google Earth just to prove my math.
Bear with me, and I will happily enlighten you.
