Good COMPUTER monitor suggestions?
Hello all,
I’m building a FCP edit suite and was just wondering what people like as far as computer monitors go. I was thinking of a pair of widescreen 22″ LCDs side by side. Somewhere in the $300-$600 range. Adjustable height is a big plus too. Of course Apple Cinema displays are beautiful, but I’ve never thought they’re worth the price, especially if you’re just using them for computer output and not video. The Dell Ultrasharps used to be a good deal but I hear their quality has gone down lately. I searched the web and there are very few side-by-side reviews of current monitors – and many are consumer reviews.
Don’t worry, I’m not using it for video monitoring (that’s what my color-critical video monitor is for!) I just want something that doesn’t wear on your eyes after hours of editing and has generally good color, brightness and contrast. I plan to calibrate it with a ColorVision Spyder3. I’ll be using it mostly for Final Cut Studio and some Adobe Creative Suite work.

We use Dell 24″ for our primary monitors and then whatever is on sale at Costco for the other. You want your primary monitor to have really sharp text display or your eyes will get really tired quickly. For the secondary monitor where you’ll throw your bins, etc… it’s not as critical.
We have ViewSonic 22″ and Samsung 24″ monitors as the secondaries in two of our suites and an older Apple 20″ cinema display in the third. You can see all of these in the Facility Tour on my website.

The 22″ and 24″ Samsungs are great especially for the price. I have 3 of them.
