good & cheap video patch panel
Posted by Greg Ball on December 11, 2006 at 2:32 amAnybody suggest a good patch panel to be able to change video sources in FCP?
I’d like to be able to go between Beta SP, Mini DV deck and output to Beta SP, mini DV deck or DVD recorder. I need something small that will fit on a desktop. Thanks.

December 11, 2006 at 3:12 amMarkertek sells a cool and cheap desktop half width patch bay that can be easily customized. Do a search under Product Name for HRP-MT and you will find the rack frame and then on the right there are a bunch of additions, including RS422 pass thru, BNC BNC and RCA, Svideo etc. Works great and is very cheap.

December 11, 2006 at 5:45 pmContact a local used broadcast reseller. If you’re in a market of any size you should have a couple. They will have stuff like this just laying around and are happen to get rid of it at very low cost.

December 11, 2006 at 6:15 pmHow about audio? If you decide you need an audio patchbay, I **strongly** recommend a punch-block design with remote terminals. Search on ADC BJF303-4MKII for an example. You’ll need a punchtool (about $80 used), but you’ll be GLAD you did! Sorry, but with all the A/V wiring, you’ll need a small rack for it all.
