Evening ladies and gentlemen, I am faced with a bit of a dilemma.

At the highschool from which I recently graduated, i took classes which trained me fairly extensively in FCP-7. As I graduated, i no longer have access to the software, and have neither the will nor the way to purchase a Macbook and FCP studio when i’ve a perfectly good PC here at home, happily whirring away.

My question is, how hard is it to go from using a FCP-7 and After Effects based workflow to a Vegas Suite workflow?

Also, anybody know if you can get a standalone After Effects/After Effects for reasonably cheap?

    Hi Calvin,
The first thing you will notice with Vegas is that it ingests raw footage from many more cameras than FCP. You can just drop it on the timeline and you are good to go. Overall, the learning curve is far less steep than FCP-and it will be even easier for you because you have already been trained on a Non Linear Editor. Just download the 1 month trial and get your hands dirty. I would also highly recommend checking some of the video tutorials from Sony and Creative Cow to get a feel for more advanced workflow.

Much appreciated. I found in FCP the best way to learn was just to mess around, and so I guess i’ve just got some messing around to do.

    Thank you,
